This traditionally styled dome was custom designed by Gerry Veley in 1985 and fabricated in his studio. The frame, constructed of 1/8" steel, was custom built in his studio as well.

The dome was built initially as an exhibition piece. It is ten feet in diameter and weighs over 600 pounds. This unique work of art consist of 49 panels with a total of more than 3,600 pieces of glass. Each panel was fabricate on a molded surface so that each stained glass panel assumes the curvature of the sphere segment. Opalescent glass was used in its construction to prevent hot spots form being created form interior lighting. The frame is welded and consists of two half sections which are bolted together. This allows for easy transportation and assembly.

Striking are the colors of the dome. They are warm but muted. This allows the dome to accent an architectural space without overpowering it.
